Microsoft admits that The Outer Worlds 2 was simply too expensive and is reducing the price: “Our full-price games will no longer cost more than $70.”

$80 for The Outer Worlds 2? For many gamers, this price was too high. Now Microsoft is backing down and promising cheaper games.

Of all games, The Outer Worlds 2, a game based on satirical criticism of capitalism, was to be Xbox’s first €80 game. For many players, it was bitter irony that this role-playing game was to herald a new era of pricing.
Now that the excitement surrounding the price increase has died down a bit, Microsoft has decided to reverse its decision.

On July 23, 2025, the official X account of The Outer Worlds announced in its usual humorous manner that the second part of the space role-playing game will now only cost 70 dollars or euros:

Dear Galactic Citizens!⁰⁰We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2. Dear galactic citizens!

We have received your emergency call regarding pricing via drone. As an organization dedicated to ensuring that companies cannot operate without restrictions, we have worked with [CENSORED] at the Earth Council to adjust the pricing of The Outer Worlds 2.

While this will not bring peace to the galaxy or your local colony, we assure you that we are here to fight for all colonies by any means necessary.

In fact, Microsoft has much more at stake than just Outer Worlds 2. In a statement to the website Windows Central, an Xbox representative explained: “Our full-price games, including The Outer Worlds 2, will continue to cost no more than €70.” This is in line with the current market situation.

Of course, it remains to be seen how long this announcement will actually hold. However, it seems that Microsoft has decided not to raise prices for the time being. The publisher may be concerned that sales will decline too sharply otherwise. However, the reference to market conditions also suggests that they may try again at a later date. At least for The Outer Worlds 2, the price is unlikely to change again. The sci-fi role-playing game will be released on October 29, 2025, and aims to improve on its predecessor in many ways. Among other things, there will be more role-playing options, and we will be able to freely choose which faction to join. A darker story also awaits us. You can read more about this in the preview linked above.
