Huge gamble – EA aims to reach 100 million players

Even before the first trailer for Battlefield 6 has been released, the upcoming shooter heavyweight is already causing heated discussions. No wonder: According to Insider Gaming , Electronic Arts is said to have invested around $400 million in development – a figure that has not been confirmed but is certainly being bandied about.
The publisher wants to score a direct hit and plans to engage four studios simultaneously. In addition to DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive have also been working on the title for years. The goal is to achieve a gigantic reach.
EA is apparently talking internally about 100 million players that it wants to reach with the title – including those who will try out the planned free-to-play battle royale mode. This is also set to include a competitive game mode, thereby appealing to the e-sports scene. A classic single-player campaign is also planned – apparently with slower pacing and a focus on atmosphere, as some fans are already hoping.

But this ambition also brings enormous pressure: After the disappointing launch of
Battlefield 2042 , EA and the studios involved now have to deliver – not just in terms of technology, but also in terms of trust.

Even before the official reveal, a clear picture is emerging in the community: opinions on the new Battlefield are widely divided. Some are longing for a comeback of the old series DNA à la BF3 and BF4, while others are warning of further disappointment if EA once again relies on shallow content and questionable design.BF3 and BF4, while others warn of further disappointment if EA once again opts for shallow content and questionable design decisions.

User “Rizzard” calls for a reform of the scoring system in the forum to reward real teamwork more – for example, by awarding points for capturing flags instead of passive camping.
“beastyboy79,” on the other hand, already praises the announced return to a slower pace of play and is looking forward to the single-player campaign. And “Mr.Floppy”? He remains cautious: after his disappointment with BF2042, he will only regain confidence once the open beta really impresses him.

It remains to be seen whether EA will get everything right this time. But one thing is certain: Battlefield 6 not only bears a famous name – it also symbolizes what may be the last chance to win back the trust of the fanbase.
