Hope from the ashes – but who will take on the next installment?
The world of Fallout has been lying fallow for years, at least as far as new single-player experiences are concerned. Since the release of Fallout 4 in 2015, fans have waited in vain for a successor even the media response to the successful Amazon series has not tempted the publisher to release it quickly. But now there is to be movement in the wasteland – albeit slower than hoped for.
According to insider Jez Corden, the parent company ZeniMax has finally given the fifth part of the series the green light. The information comes from the Xbox Two Podcast, where Corden reports that Fallout 5 has been officially approved. That sounds good at first, but anyone looking forward to an imminent release is likely to be disappointed.
According to Corden, the main developers at Bethesda are currently busy with other projects – including the Starfield DLC and the next milestone The Elder Scrolls VI. This means that the core team for Fallout 4 will probably not be involved, fueling speculation about a replacement studio within Bethesda.
Fallout 5 gets the green light – but it gets complicated
The go-ahead for Fallout 5 apparently comes at the expense of another ambitious project.The online RPG known as “Project Blackbird” was canceled following internal restructuring. Instead of investing resources in a risky MMO, Bethesda apparently prefers to rely on a proven brand – Fallout remains a safe bet.
But what’s next? According to rumors, several Fallout titles could be in development: In addition to Fallout 5 a Fallout 3 Remaster could also be in the works – possibly even a third, as yet unknown project. There are no concrete details yet, but the idea alone raises new hope in the community.
However, caution is still advised: This is all based on insider information, official confirmation from Bethesda is still pending. Nevertheless, anyone who has been longing for a return to the wasteland for years can slowly blow the dust off their power armor again – at least mentally.
