British esports organisation The Ruddy Sack has announced that it will be going on ‘hiatus’ for the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) Summer Split.

This is the result of the organisation halting its partnership with esports personalities Christian ‘IWDominate‘ Rivera and Jakob ‘YamatoCannon’ Mebdi. While The Ruddy Sack is entering hiatus, the organisation will continue to compete this split under its original title, Ruddy Esports.

In a video posted online, Jake ‘DonJake’ Morley, Co-Owner of Ruddy Esports, stated that the reason was because of ‘burnout on multiple ends’. The team will also review the partnership in 2026.

“The Ruddy Sack will not be a thing next split,” DonJake said. “It will be going on hiatus for review for 2026. That has been an agreement reached by me, Dom, and Yamato, all individually as parties.”

What Happens Now?

Though The Ruddy Sack is gone for now, Ruddy Esports will still appear at NLC 2025 Summer Split under the original name. According to Sheep Esports, Ruddy Esports has already finalised its roster for the upcoming tournament, with Donjake stepping in as its Jungler. However, Riot Games has yet to officially approve the team.

Despite agreeing on the term ‘hiatus’, DonJake emphasised that it did not guarantee that The Ruddy Sack would come back in the future, and would depend on the results of the 2026 review. He also shared that other factors include the state of the NLC scene, and the availability of key members of the organisation, come 2026.

Burnout was one of the key reasons for the hiatus, according to Donjake. During the video, he shared how the majority of teams were comprised of streamers and criticised how it’s not sustainable.

“So the long and short of it is that we are in an ecosystem where a lot of the NLC teams, in my mind, are kind of operating on this façade of public awareness traded off for what would be replaced with traditional salaries,” he said.

“The reality is that a lot of these streamer teams are very easy to break. So we arrived at the end of the off-season kind of burnt out, and all three of us decided we’d be going in a different direction. I think the streamer model right now is something that I don’t think will necessarily last for reasons that are relatively self-evident from the things I’m hinting at here.”

The video finally ends with DonJake sharing what is next for Ruddy Esports, saying that it will be going in a ‘slightly different direction’ next split. Follow-up posts to the video also suggest that Ruddy will also continue with content creation.
