Developer Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: Warhammer 3’s Tides of Torment DLC is now delayed until “later this year.” The extra time will be spent improving its gameplay offering to ensure its quality aligns with that of the grand strategy game’s recent pieces of premium content.
The third and final “What’s Next” video covering Tides and Torment’s third faction has also been delayed until August. The developer did, rather unceremoniously, confirm that the High Elves, led by Sea Lord Aislinn, join Norsca and Slaanesh in receiving new units, mechanics, and updates.

“In recent playtesting, we asked ourselves if this next DLC met the standards that we’ve set in recent releases, and the short answer was no,” the developer wrote in a blog post. “However, we know it can and so we want to spend more time working on it, reviewing the content, and improving the gameplay experiences that it’s set to bring.
“These changes will likely mean the content we shared in our What’s Next videos for Slaanesh and Norsca is no longer accurate. As soon as we know the final shape of those changes, we’ll share them to you directly as part of the final What’s Next video to give you the complete picture on our third faction in this DLC and the changes to the other factions.”
Originally aiming for a summer 2025 release, Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC is now unlikely to launch before October. This quite possibly makes it the only piece of paid content coming to the grand strategy game this year.
The third entry in the series has walked a very rocky road so far and, prior to this delay, it seemed like Creative Assembly had regained lost momentum.
Warhammer III will still see free updates in the lead-up to Tides of Torment’s now-delayed release date, with patch 6.3 promising “some overdue Quality of Life improvements to Tomb Kings and Lizardmen, and revisions to generic starting traits,” as early as August.
The blog post also offers a handful of teasers for the game’s future, including news that Creative Assembly is exploring the possibility of releasing single-lord DLC packs.
“We’re working out how these would fit with our schedules, but we have a good idea for who the first one could be, and she’s someone near and dear to your blood,” the developer wrote, potentially hinting that the much-requested Neferata might become a playable legendary lord at some point.
Furthermore, 2026 will bring “one of the biggest Total War: Warhammer content packs ever created in the trilogy, alongside some free content,” and we’ll get our first look at what’s coming in early December, when the Total War 25th Anniversary Showcase airs.
Although the news of Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Decay DLC being delayed is bound to dampen enthusiasm for these announcements, it’s certainly good to hear that there’s at least one more year of content for the troubled trilogy closer.
