VK Gaming win ALGS Midseason Playoffs at the Esports World Cup in style

APAC-South (Asia-Pacific South) team VK Gaming win the Apex Legends Global Series Midseason Playoffs at the Esports World Cup.

The triple MnK team were one of the most dominant in the Match Point Finals lobby. Their consistently aggressive play style impressed viewers and broadcast talent alike.

However, the APAC-South region remains neglected by tournament organisers, with no official broadcast for their regional circuit. Following VK Gaming’s win, fans and Apex Legends talent demand increased support for the region.

VK Gaming win the Match Point Final in 10 games

Apex Legends esports finals follow a Match Point format. This is where teams must first accumulate 50 points through kills and placements in early matches.

Once they hit the 50-point Match Point threshold, they must then proceed to win a game outright to win the final overall.

VK Gaming launched into the Finals with a bang, winning Match 1 in impressive style. With seven top-ten finishes, five of which were also top-five, their foot never left the gas pedal.

In fact, their lowest match placement in the entire Match Point Final was 12th.

After coming painfully close to winning Match 9, VK Gaming’s impressive positioning and perfect fighting technique earned them the trophy in Match 10.

Here is the match-by-match breakdown, featuring the Match Number, Map, winning team, the number of points accumulated by that team in the Match overall, and the number of points they accumulated from kills:

Who fell to the wayside in the Grand Final?

Alliance were hot favourites across Esports betting sites to win the Midseason Playoffs. As defending Esports World Cup Champions, they sailed through the Pool Play stage, accumulating a diabolical 135 points across the ten games.

However, their Match Point Final performance was mediocre, with the EMEA powerhouse consistently hovering around the middle of the leaderboard. They eventually finished in 11th place overall.

Team Falcons also suffered a lacklustre start to the final, sitting in 12th place after Match 4. A better Match 5 finally pushed them into the top ten, and a strong Match 6 performance placed them over the Match Point threshold.

Eventually, they were unable to overcome some of their competitors, finishing just outside of the top five teams and settling for 6th. Nevertheless, they did not win a single Match outright.

Winners of the American Regional Final, ROC Esports, performed consistently well throughout the final, winning two games and becoming the first team to reach the Match Point threshold.

However, they struggled to convert their points accumulation into an official Match Point win. They were able to accumulate 87 points overall, finishing in second place behind VK Gaming.

Their impressive stats still kept them at the top, but they simply couldn’t close out with a win.

Demands rise for an official ALGS APAC-South broadcast following VK Gaming victory

In Apex Legends Esports, only the Americas and EMEA have official regional pro league broadcasts. Traditionally, these have been the two most dominant regions in the esport. However, VK Gaming’s win demonstrates that this hierarchy no longer stands.

Not only did an APAC-South team win the Midseason Playoffs, but three of the top five teams hailed from the region. Fourth- and fifth-place teams, Gen.G Esports and Wolves Esports, respectively, are also APAC-South teams.

Hopefully, now that VK Gaming has demonstrated its strength and talent in the APAC-South region on the international stage, the area will be elevated to the same status as the Americas and EMEA.

In the meantime, roster season is set to begin. Ahead of the next Regional Split, organisations and teams will scramble to acquire the best rosters. For many teams, the upcoming Split is their last chance to secure Championship qualification for Sapporo 2026.

Let the roster games begin.
