Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters’ popularity continues to grow as the title track ‘Golden’ hits #1 on Spotify’s global chart.

The soundtrack featuring the fictional K-pop groups of Huntr/x and Saja Boys has dominated the global music stream charts since its release.

The similarities with Huntr/x and Riot Games’ K/DA have elevated both virtual groups back into the charts.

Golden hits #1 on global chart

According to Chart Data, ‘Golden’ by Huntr/x and sung by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami hit #1 on Spotify’s global chart yesterday.

This was the song’s first time at the top of the global charts with 5.46 million streams, once again according to Chart Data.

Beating the likes of Alex Warren, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, Sabrina Carpenter, and many more established artists to achieve the top spot.

Despite dropping down to #2 behind sombr’s ‘back to friends’, the soundtrack’s dominance of the charts is a testament to the song’s popularity.

Currently as of writing, Golden sits at #2 on both the Spotify global chart and the Billboard Global 200.

However, it has dropped down to #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is at #4 on Apple Music’s top 100 Global.

The songs, ‘Your Idol’ and ‘Soda Pop’ by virtual boy group Saja Boys, also make an appearance on the charts.

While the other movie original songs of ‘How It’s Done’, ‘What It Sounds Like’, ‘Free’, and ‘Takedown’, also remain in the global charts.

Since the film’s release three weeks ago, it’s dominated both the movie and music industries.

Transcending both to become a global phenomenon.

Kpop’s growing influence over the gaming and esports industry

At this point, it’s no shock that the creators of KPop Demon Hunters drew from many influences for the movie.

League of Legends fans were quick to draw comparisons with KPop Demon Hunters and Riot Games’ K/DA.

K/DA being another virtual K-pop girl group that originally debuted in 2018.

The group also saw a resurgence in their own music thanks to the release of KPop Demon Hunters.

Meanwhile, some K-pop fans criticised visual comparisons between the main character Rumi and Blackpink’s Jennie.

Claiming that the movie was using Jennie’s looks to help promote the film.

Gamers are no strangers to the K-pop industry at this point, as multiple collaborations between K-pop and video games have occurred over the past few years.

The most recent of which being girl group aespa’s collaborations with PUBG after their success with Street Fighter.

KPop Demon Hunters transcends the movie industry

Meanwhile, some K-pop fans criticised visual comparisons between the main character Rumi and Blackpink’s Jennie.

Claiming that the movie was using Jennie’s looks to help promote the film.

In an interview with Mashable, KPop Demon Hunters director Maggie Kang shared that the K-pop concept was one of the last ideas to be added into the script.

Despite being almost an afterthought of the entire movie, the soundtrack has since infected the K-pop industry.

Many K-pop groups and idols have since done their own renditions and content using the movie’s soundtrack.
