EGBA Members Contribute €3.8bn to European Economy in 2024

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has released its 2024 Annual Sustainability Report, revealing that its member operators contributed a combined €3.8bn (£3.2bn) to the European economy over the past year.

This figure encompasses tax revenues paid by some of the continent’s most prominent online gaming and betting brands, reflecting the sector’s substantial economic footprint across 21 European nations.

The report, which covers the online operations of EGBA members in both the EU and the UK, highlights a year marked by significant engagement with safer gambling initiatives, social responsibility, and community investment.

EGBA members currently hold 321 online gambling licenses, ensuring regulated operations and compliance with national frameworks.

Responsible Gambling and Community Engagement

EGBA’s 2024 report details a surge in responsible gambling efforts, with 100m customer safety messages sent during the year, a 64% increase compared to 2023.

The use of safer gambling tools also increased, with 26.7m customers currently engaging these features, and 89% of staff received training in safer gambling practices.

The report also notes that the EGBA statistics show that those working at the companies during 2024 were made up of 57% males and 43% females, which is the same distribution as in 2023.

Environmental initiatives saw an increase in their use of renewable energy sources by the member operators to 78% in 2024, up from 64% the previous year, while overall energy consumption decreased by 11%.

EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer commented on the release: “In a year marked by both progress and challenges, EGBA members continue to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable business practices. This report—our fifth consecutive annual sustainability report—shows not just where we are, but how far we’ve come and where we’re heading.

“We publish this report to support transparency and reinforce our culture of social responsibility. It tracks our yearly progress and demonstrates our accountability to all stakeholders.”

The 2024 Annual Sustainability Report underscores EGBA’s commitment to transparency, safer gambling, and positive societal impact, positioning its members as key contributors to Europe’s economic and social landscape.
