MOONTON Games has disqualified S8UL Esports from competing at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s (MLBB) Mid-Season Cup 2025 event, set to take place at the Esports World Cup.
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang developer states that the Indian esports organisation, which is fielding a North American team, has breached the event’s rules.
S8UL Esports MSC Disqualification Explained
According to a statement from MLBB, S8UL Esports players Jang ‘Hoon’ Seong-hun and Michael ‘Mobazane’ Cosgun breached the competition rules after competing in an Honor of Kings event in June.
As a result of Hoon and Mobazane competing in the rival mobile MOBA title’s event, S8UL Esports will no longer compete at the Mid-Season Cup, the game’s largest international event this year.
“As outlined in the MSC penalty index, a penalty will be imposed if a team member engages in any competitor games’ events, activity, livestream or other way to give the competitor games’ exposure,” notes a statement from the MSC 2025 Committee.
“Due to these suspensions, Team S8UL is no longer eligible to compete. The team is unable to meet the tournament’s minimum roster requirements and is not eligible for roster changes.”
With S8UL Esports no longer competing at the MSC, its spot has been awarded to Area 77, which finished second in the NACT Spring 2025 event.
S8UL Esports’ FwydChickn Responds
In response to the decision, S8UL player Ian ‘FwydChickn’ Hohl has recorded a video criticising the decision. The player also shared insight into attempts to allow the organisation to compete in the tournament.
“We have been forced to withdraw due to unfair restrictions and bullying from MOONTON. I don’t blame Hoon or Zane. This [Honor of Kings] campaign was planned a while back, and when planned, they made sure that it would be allowed in accordance with the MSC rulebook,” said FwydChickn.
“After clear revision, there was nothing that would obstruct us from competing at MSC while they do the campaign.”
While FwydChickn has shared his thoughts on the decision, S8UL Esports is yet to release an official statement on the matter.
