TL;DR

  • Invincible VS brings characters from Mark Nolan’s universe and is primed for competitive esports and casual gaming.
  • Fighters already confirmed include Invincible (Mark Nolan), Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Wilkins), Bulletproof (Zandale Rudolph), and Thula.
  • The first character on our wishlist is Robot, the brains behind the current Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • Thragg, the pure-blood regent of the Viltrum Empire, seems to be a compelling choice to include in the game due to his raw power and brutal fighting style.

The decision to turn Invincible VS into a 2D tag-fighting game seems a likely success thanks to the vast expanse of characters in Robert Kirkman’s superhero universe.

But with such a huge cast of potential characters, and many of them possessing similar physical traits (the Viltrumites, Allen the Alien, The Immortal, for example), it will be imperative that the developers carefully choose who makes it into the final game.

We’ve narrowed it down to the top 10 fighters we’d like to see in Invincible VS.

What is Invincible VS?

Invincible VS is primed for both competitive esports and casual gaming. It brings characters from Mark Nolan’s universe into the console and PC arena, taking inspiration from titles like BlazBlue and Dragon Ball FighterZ.

The game is being developed by Quarter Up—a new studio under Starbound Game Studios, whose parent company is Image Comics—so we wouldn’t rule out crossovers and DLCs pulling in characters like Spawn and Rick Grimes.

Confirmed fighters in Invincible VS

  • Invincible (Mark Nolan)
  • Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Wilkins)
  • Bulletproof (Zandale Rudolph)
  • Thula

We’ve also seen Omni-Man and Lucan in the Invincible Vs gameplay trailer, but as per the Invincible VS website, they are not playable characters—not yet, at least.

But since this is a 3v3 tag fighter, we’d expect there to be an even bigger range of fighters on release, and our Invincible VS fighter wishlist does its best to incorporate them.

Invincible VS fighters we’d like to see

10. Robot

The first character who must appear in Invincible VS is Robot, the brains behind the current Guardians of the Galaxy. His narrative across the comics positions him as a central character, and his vast access to technology, including his suit, will make him an extremely modular and versatile character in Invincible VS.

Robot’s collection of suits can also add a strong dynamic element to his playstyle, which would greatly complement the game’s tag-fighting heart.

9. Thragg

Invincible Season 4 will introduce the series’ main antagonist. Thragg, the pure-blood regent of the Viltrum Empire, seems to be a compelling choice to include in the game due to his raw power and brutal fighting style.

With the Invincible VS release date expected in 2026, roughly the same time as the next season of the show, it would make sense for the game to either introduce Thragg from the outset or include him as DLC after the game’s initial release.

Deciding which fighters should be in Invincible VS has not been easy, and Thragg’s inclusion in this wishlist came at the expense of Allen the Alien. Though the Unopan’s abilities surpass nearly all other characters in the series, Invincible VS has to have its big bad.

8. Battle Beast (Thokk)

Between Thragg, Conquest, Allen the Alien, and Monster Girl, Invincible VS has a wide variety of heavy tank fighters at its disposal. But despite all the aforementioned characters, there’s no chance that fans would be happy without being able to play as Battle Beast.

Wielding a hammer-axe and a sword, or his signature mace, this could be one of the few characters that doesn’t fight with fists, projectiles, or magic.

7. Dupli-Kate

As one of the core Guardians of the Globe, Dupli-Kate seems the perfect fit for a 3v3 tag-fighter game. Her unique ability to duplicate herself into perfect copies lends itself well to the teamwork dynamic of the game, and her fast fighting and close-combat abilities would serve well to contrast with the other heavy hitters of the Invincible universe.

6. Green Ghost

Green Ghost, or Alana, possesses the unique ability to change her density, allowing her to phase through people and objects.

Green Ghost would offer another contrast to the physical prowess of the Viltrumites and aliens, whose main abilities will be sheer strength. The design team could draw inspiration from a character with abilities like Akuma in Street Fighter, who can quickly teleport behind other characters.

5. Shrinking Rae

Shrinking Rae’s storyline in the most recent season of the series has brought much-needed attention to the character, and her abilities make her an obvious choice for the game. Her ability to rapidly change size will act as a solid counter to the physicality of the Viltrumite fighters, and will add some much-needed depth and variety to different playstyles. However, the implementation of such an ability in a balanced tag-fighter might be tricky.

4. Cecil Stedman

Cecil Stedman would offer a great creative outlet for the Quarter Up design team. He’s far from a combat artist himself, but instead adopts a role as the director of the Global Defense Agency. We’d expect him to be a puppet-master (like Zappa in Guilty Gear)  who could summon ReAnimen and other Guardians to attack and defend.

He can also teleport and turn invisible in the right circumstances, giving him great escape options, and we’d imagine seeing Stedman as one of the Invincible VS top picks once the game is out.

3. Monster Girl

Monster Girl, or Amanda, is one of the staple characters in the Guardian of the Globe and offers the ability to switch between a child and a hulking ogre. Monster Girl will make a great heavy tank to counter the Viltrumites, though her slow speed will make her vulnerable to more tactical and projectile-based fighters.

It’s going to be interesting seeing how the battle fatigue system affects Monster Girl, perhaps transforming her back to her human form as a result.

2. Brit

Brit’s first appearance in the show is in Season 3, but he’s a Kirkman character in the Invincible universe who also has his series.

He’s a military superhero who uses his invulnerability and superhuman strength much like Captain America. As a trained martial artist, Brit would offer up a great option for a blend of speed and strength, and he’s full of personality, too.

1. Tech Jacket

Like Brit, Tech Jacket is another Kirkman character in the Invincible universe who has his own comic series. Tech Jacket makes a screen debut in Season 3, but his comic was released before Invincible.

Tech Jacket eventually joins the Coalition of Planets as the only human to resist the Viltrum Empire. His Geldarian armour sets him apart from other characters whose abilities stem from magic or innate strength. Offering a blend of projectile offence and hand-to-hand combat, Tech Jacket would fit in the same tier as fighters like Rex Splode and Robot.

Tech Jacket ranks first on our list of characters we’d most like to see, not just for his extremely versatile and fast-paced fighting style, but for his relevance in effectively starting the universe as the first character. There would be no Invincible without Tech Jacket, and for that reason, Invincible VS must include him.

Conclusion

This Invincible VS characters wishlist fails to mention a few key names: Allen, Omni-Man, Rex-Splode, The Immortal, and Angstrom Levy, for example. My guess is that, with all the attention they have had in the show, they are each sure to feature in the game.

So far, the fighters on this Invincible VS wishlist have a varied background. Some are from the comics only, others are show-favourites, while some come from different series entirely. Since the game is effectively owned by Image Comics, we’re going to expect a no-holds-barred approach to its fighter design and choices.
