Starting in July, you can get a desktop graphics card with 8 RTX 5050: Nvidia officially unveils its cheapest desktop graphics card

Starting in July, you can get a desktop graphics card with 8 GB VRAM and GDDR6 memory for $250.

After rumors began circulating at the beginning of the month that Nvidia might introduce a desktop version of the RTX 5050, the company has now taken the plunge and officially unveiled the new graphics card

In detail:

  • The GeForce RTX 5050 graphics card is expected to be sold for a price starting at $250.
  • Nvidia will release it in the second half of July.

The RTX 5050 is based on the new GB207 chip from the Blackwell architecture. The most affordable graphics card in Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series to date is still based on the older GB206 chip.

In terms of performance, the RTX 5050 ranks below the RTX 5060. With 2,560 CUDA cores, it is significantly below the 3,840 cores of the RTX 5060. This means it offers around 30 percent less computing power.

The use of GDDR6 memory and a memory bandwidth of 320 GB/s are also areas where the graphics card performs less well.

The lower performance only has a positive effect on power consumption. The new graphics card consumes 130 watts, which is 20 watts less than the RTX 5060.

The comparison with the cheapest model of the previous generation, the RTX 4060, is more favorable. Although Nvidia’s RTX 4060 graphics card offers 3072 cores, its memory speed is lower than that of the RTX 5050.

Here is a comparison of the key data for both graphics cards:

RTX 5050 RTX 5060
CUDA cores 2560 3840
Memory 8 GB GDDR6 8 GB GDDR7
Memory bandwidth 320 GB/s 448 GB/s
TDP 130 W 150 W
Price (RRP) 250 US dollars (euro price not yet known) 319 euros

Nvidia says the new RTX 5050 graphics card will be available in stores around mid-July.

By the way, there wasn’t a direct predecessor to the RTX 5050. Nvidia decided not to release the RTX 4050 for desktops in the RTX 4000 series. Now we want to hear what you think. What do you think about the price of the card? Are you already planning to buy one, or do you have reservations? Feel free to leave us a comment.
